PHOTO.COMM is an acronym for the project “Design & Engineering of Photosynthetic Communities for Industrial Cultivation”. This is an EU-funded collaborative project on the design of light-driven microbial communities of microalgae or cyanobacteria for sustainable large-scale production of fuels, chemicals and general biomass.
The overall aim of the PHOTO.COMM research is to improve the sustainability and economic viability of industrial biotechnological products from microalgae and cyanobacteria.
The primary strategic aim of PHOTO.COMM is to train a new generation of young researchers to meet the formidable challenges involved in this field. We consist of 10 partners including 3 industrial partners and have employed 14 fellows distributed on 12 ESRs (Early Stage Researchers) and 2 ERs (Experienced Researchers).
Project period: 2012-2016 (4 years in total)
PHOTO.COMM is funded by the People Programme (Marie Curie Actions) of the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme FP7/2007-2013/ under REA grant agreement n° 317184
